My family are huge fans of pineapples and Del Monte pineapple to be more specific. Del Monte Fresh Produce, recently launched its “Gold for Gold” treasure hunt promotion. This is the second year Del Monte is encouraging US and Canadian grocery shoppers to purchase Del Monte Gold® Extra Sweet whole or fresh cut pineapple at their local retailer for a chance to enter to win a whole pound of 24k gold! Additionally, two second prize winners will each take home an ounce of 24k gold. The promotion runs from October 13 to November 16.

Our family cooks with pineapple. Every Christmas we have Slovak pastries, one being called Pineapple Cookies (Where the Slovs got pineapple I’m not sure since this has been handed down from great grandparents to today!) These cookies are a tradition that we cannot do with out. Another family favorite is Fresh Mixed Fruit. I make this in gallon tubs and it’s gone with in a few days (recipe below).

As moms and dads we are constantly on the look out for creative ways to cook and include healthy fruits and vegetables in the diets of our family. Del Monte Gold® Extra Sweet Pineapples are an inexpensive and versatile fruit that enhances any recipe dish. Last year, retailers set up creative pirate-themed Del Monte Gold® Extra Sweet Pineapple displays in their produce section that included cooking demonstrations on multiple uses with pineapples.

To participate in the “Gold for Gold” treasure hunt, consumers should look for specially marked whole or fresh cut Del Monte Gold® Extra Sweet Pineapples in the produce and fresh cut sections of their local supermarkets. Each pineapple or fresh cut package has a tag or label with registration information. Consumers register by entering their information on our website, www.fruits.com/wingold. Consumers may also “share” the promotion with friends via social media!

For more information about the “Gold for Gold” treasure hunt promotion, follow us on Facebook and Twitter (@delmontefresh).
