I started reading to my children during dinner when they were quite young. (Both autistic) This way, they experienced many books that they would have otherwise had much trouble sitting still enough to listen to.

Everyone helps with dinner whether it is helping cook or setting the table. During dinner ww discuss our day and everyone also has to say at least one positive thing about their day.

My kids are all young, 4 and under, but we all take turns picking who gets to sit beside mom/dad/baby. The 3 oldest like to take turns sitting beside us. The person who picks also gets to set the table. And whoever finishes eating first gets to pick what the special treat of the day is. (usually a single gummy or similar)
