I received no compensation for this post. It is mine and my happy memories alone!
When I was small and this song was popular my grandfather told me this song meant a lot to him. He came to America through Ellis Island in 1913, and this song was the theme when the Statue of Liberty was renovated in the 1980s was revealed. My grandparents on my father’s side were visiting our home in Michigan from Pennsylvania at the time.
The things he shared with us that night are things that will be treasured forever. Even though he was a very little boy when he came through he remembered. He told us that when he saw the Statue of Liberty he KNEW they were in America and free. Free of what I don’t know and will never know, but he came from Hungary.
He took pride in the fact that he came to America for a better life and he made our country better by working hard and instilling good values in his children and grandchildren. My grandmother, was born in the USA to a Slov family and together they had a hard but wonderful life here in the USA together.
Each contributed to our country. My grandmother worked for the Postal Service. My grandfather was a Coal Miner but he also was the person during WWII that announced the hurt, missing, and dead to their small town. He was what I think today would be called an HAM radio operator. Anything that he could contribute he did.
Happy Weekend!
I have always loved neil diamond music
I’m a mega Neil Diamond fan.
thanks for the post
Those that had to work so very hard to immigrant to America appreciated the freedom that they were going to enjoy. It seems today that those freedoms are being taking for granted. Some are already lost.
