The Family That Kayaks Together Stays Together

This year Neal and I found a screaming deal on Kayaks and got 2 more to add to our older one, it was our Summer splurge.  When my cousin and her family came to visit we ventured out and took turns with all 3 kayaks.  The kids loved it.  The day we went it was a bit overcast and windy but it was perfect for taking the boats out.  While 3 were out 5 of us would sit and play cards on the beach or run in for a swim.

Crooked lake is a little inland lake in Michigan.  The part we were at was shallow and made for the perfect place for the kids to learn to get their balance in the boats.  While the water was maybe a foot deep it was still important that everyone wear a life vest.  It doesn’t matter if you can swim well, are an adult or a child water safety is important.  Every year the lakes claim lives and I want always have good memories for our family and our Summers in the Great Lakes State.

Kayaking is a great way to get in more exercise and fresh air.  We have so much fun kayaking around the lake that it doesn’t feel like exercise, although, I do feel it later in my arms.  It’s also a great time to take in a quick swim and building lasting memories for the whole family.  Our boys will race each other and attempt to race mom and dad who are “Losers” and slow lol.

While we haven’t fished off our kayaks I have a boy is hoping to do so when he comes home from Boy Scout Camp.  One of our boys is an Eagle Scout and another is working towards becoming an Eagle.  This is a great activity to bring them back to nature and to increase their skills.  I also hope that my husband and I are helping to promote healthy habits for their future, both physical and family.

My husband once rented a kayak when he took the boys camping. The boys loved kayaking in the lake they went to.

I’ve only been kyacking twice and really enjoyed the experience! Once was when I went to Canada with a pediatric MS group and the second here in georgia. I would totally love to go again, but I am a wimp when it comes to rapids so it would definitely have to be be on a lake lol!

That looks like so much fun – I so want to try it, just not sure if it’s hard with a bad shoulder to row. :/
