Homemade Gifts Are The Greatest

I’m not sure about you but our family loves receiving homemade gifts of all sorts. I especially enjoy receiving items that are useful but that I can’t make myself or don’t have time to. This year is especially ight for us. We’ve been hit with loads of unexpected bills and are working to play catch up. In years past I’ve made ornaments, scarves, nativity scenes, ceramic Christmas trees and much more. There isn’t much I haven’t tried EXCEPT Gifts in a jar.

I don’t make gifts in a jar but really enjoy receiving them as well as baked goods, coupons for errands, coffee out or a movie. Last year I received a pair of mittens from another mom who was making them out of old wool sweaters reclaimed from second hand stores and lined inside with fleece. These are warm and oh so cute.

This year I’m making scarves. I know, I know the dreaded knitted SCARF! But WAIT! Beacause I’m me and don’t must turn a bit from tradition I use and combine materials to make unique scarves. The one I’m working on right now is made from a rag type yarn and combined with a warm but normal yarn to create a warm fashionable look. I have a request for a scrappy scarf similar to what I made a couple of years ago. I took reclaimed soft flannel and cut it into long strips and knitted it. That scarf turned out super cute and I wish I had taken a photo of it.

Whether giving or receiving a homemade gift know that a lot of love and work went into this item, and homemade gifts aren’t always cheap either. Don’t be afraid to be whimsical and fun. Draw on a Gift in a jar with a chalk pen, use materials you would never dream of using when knitting or crocheting, if you sew create one of kind master pieces. Here are some ideas that I love.

Gifts in a jar
Brownies, Soups, Cookies, Scrubs, Bath Salts
Knitted or Crocheted
Mittens, Scarves
Mittens, Pillows, Ornaments

Gift Baskets

Movie Theme, Baked Goods Theme, Game Theme

The ideas are endless and Pinterest has loads of ideas if you’re looking for inspiration. The holidays don’t have to be as stressful as we make them out to be. A little thought and time can go a long way.

I love giving homemade gifts. My girls are taking after me in that they love making something all on their own to give to their friends. I just organized my craft room (which doubles as our homeschooling room) and now I have a lot of projects that I want to work on.
