8 New Living Room Ideas for Little to No Money

8 New Living Room Ideas for Little to No Money

Our living room is probably the most used and most dynamic part of our home. It is where our friends and relatives feel welcome, and our guests are entertained. We also spend a great deal of time chilling and relaxing there ourselves, but we often neglect the way it looks and feels.

With today’s economic situation, as much as we would like to make changes or update our home, there may be more important things that need our hard earned cash. When funds are available for home improvements, these are often spent on other rooms, which are thought of as a priority.

Here are a few things that we can do to bring an instant change to our living space, which can be neglected in preference for other parts of the home. These ideas are also possible without the need to spend thousands of dollars.

The process

Note: We are not going to even leave the home or spend lots of dollars on new furniture. We are going

to embrace our imagination.

Simple and subtle is the game here – and once you have done this once you will be able to change your room as often as you like. If you are thinking of making changes, instead of going to your local furniture store, we suggest that you take a tour of your own home.

Take a tour of your home

Take notes of the parts that you like, and those that you wish to change. As you are taking your tour, look at things in other rooms that you do enjoy, and imagine them sitting in your living room. Perhaps you have a storage cupboard or other hidden knickknacks. It’s time to have a closer look at those too.

“Borrow” and rearrange loved items

It is a great idea to “borrow” ornaments or pictures from other rooms. Interchange them where they can be really enjoyed on a daily basis. Moving some of your favorite things where they can be seen more, brings a constant feeling of warmth in your psyche and is good for you.

Add greenery

Adding plants is another great way of bringing your room to life. Greenery is a living thing, and allows the room to filter natural sunlight, and bring some character also. This is a very low cost way of changing the feel of any room with immediate effect.

Bring out those old books

If you have lots of books hidden away, this is a great way to add life to an empty fireplace, or a mantel piece. A mixture of hardbacks and paperbacks of different shapes, sizes and stacks can add a creative touch to any room or corner. Be creative and think outside the box.

Think about furniture positioning and add-ons

Sometimes all it takes is to rearrange your existing furniture and a whole room has come to life again. Adding a few cushions or throws on your sofa or arm chairs is another low cost idea to add color and style.

Use simple decorations

Candles and sea shells or stones can also bring a room to life for a few dollars. Fill a couple of glasses or bowls full of these items and feel the difference. Add candles and potpourri to bring a new dimension to any dark corners.

Create a feature wall

Painting a wall is also a very cheap way of bringing a dreary room to life. There’s no need to paint the whole room, one or two walls is sufficient. Create a feature wall with your favorite color, this can transform a room immediately.

These are only a few ideas. There are many other options to consider, only limited by your imagination.  Get creative and bring your living space to life.

I love your ideas and since now that the weather is finally warming up I will be able to continue my Spring cleaning and this usually intales me doing something on my walls, bringing more plants into the living space, curtain change up …

All great ideas and I need to try them all. I’ve been thinking about trying to jazz up my long neglected home, but I wasn’t sure where to start.

I like switching out items in a glass hurricane I have for the seasons so for fall I have pine cones and for spring I have these decorations that have butterflies on them. I like the idea of bringing items from different rooms though because sometimes it’ll look different in a different light.

These are wonderful ideas. I think adding greenery always makes a home look better. Unfortunately, we have two little felines who like to eat the greenery in our house. 🙂

I love the book idea. I have some faves I cannot part with and do have many boxed away. I think a featured wall would be great too, especially with personal photos.
