Today I Let The Sunlight In

It sounds dumb to many of you especially, if you live in the south, but today I let sunlight in.  Winters are cold here in Northern Michigan and we have to do everything we can to eliminate drafts and keep the elements out.  One of the things our family does is pull the drapes. For months we’ve lived in the dark and the only light has been lamps, even during the day.  We live above the 45th Parallel, which means that it’s darker here longer than in many other states in the winter, but on a brighter note in the summer it stays light longer.

Today I pulled back those curtains and let in the sun.  It felt so good to look outside and see the trees budding, grass greening up and tally all of the work our family needs to do to get our yard in shape.  Hmmm, looking out the big slider it was rather cloudy.  I got out the vinegar and water and scrubbed that window inside and out.  I came in side and you would not believe how much beamed in by just cleaning the window.  *Note to self*  Tackle a few windows a day.

Letting in the sunlight put a smile on my face.  It made me go out on the deck and and inhale fresh air deeply.  I listened to the birds and my soul soared.  Yes, spring is finally here in Northern Michigan and I intend to embrace it fully.

I grew up in Ohio and know what you mean. I wish the light lamps were popular back them, since they would have helped. It really does make you appreciate the warmer weather and sunshine when it finally does make an appearance!

Living in Texas we don’t have to wait on the sunshine. I guess we get an earlier start than the north, but then the heat really comes later. We plant our garden, sit outside in the afternoon and enjoy the clean fresh air.

Over here in the tropics, it’s summer all year round. I can’t imagine living in the dark for months! I would be so miserable!
