Enjoying the fair without the kids or with the kids enjoying the fair on their own is new to my husband and I. We immediately found a welcome site after entering the gates. The racing derby. Cars that are on their last leg line up and fight to the finish on the dirt track.
It sounds redneckish and it is, but it’s fun and the stands were packed. There were a series of races that included everything from mom cars (suvs & mini vans) to an anything goes (included a police car lights and all). These cars stall, hit each other and have to think of clever ways to get to the finish line as you will see in the video.
This made for a fun and inexpensive night out for my husband and I. For $10 we enjoyed 3 hours of muddied track racing. Funny one liners from the announcer and chanting from the crowd.
Looking around the crowd I noticed one thing. EVERYONE had a smile on their face. Everyone was laughing and having fun and if for a short 3 hours everyone was able to forget their troubles, let loose and have some fun.
So while this entertainment might not be refined or clean for that matter it is fun, funny and enjoyable for the whole family. It was a night to let off steam and enjoy the fact that no matter how much work your vehicle needs the ones on the field need more. It was a moment of thankfulness.
This looks like a lot of fun to watch!
Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Looks like fun!
Looks like some people are having fun.
It has been many years since I have been to a derby, we might just have to go next time there is one at the fairgrounds.
It sounds like you and your husband had a wonderful time at the derby. I’ve never been but I enjoyed seeing your pictures & reading about it. Thanks for sharing!
One of the reasons I go to the Co. Fairs is to watch car derby and demolition derby. So fun!
One of my favorite memories growing up is going to the county fair and watching the car derby and demolition derbies. I remember crying at my first one cause I thought the drivers were going to get hurt. So many fun memories!
This sounds like so much fun. I haven’t been to one of these in years. Great evening entertainment. Thank you for sharing
