Sometimes, you can simply change your same old same old recipes into “ahhh” moments by exploring new spices. Spice Madam can help you do that by giving you a Passport to Culinary Adventure. Each month you can have global spices delivered straight to your door for an affordable $20 a month.
I received the Spice Madam Peru box. The box came with cards about Peru and each spice they sent as well as six recipe cards for using my new spices and a recipe summary card that tells you the items you’ll need to make each dish and how long it will take to make each item. These were particlarly handy to me because I’m not a worldly cook and everything that came was new to me.
My spices included:
Cancha – A snack in Peru made with a special type of large-kernel corn. This corn works great for adding some crunch to you dishes. Sprinkle on top of chili instead of crackers!
Aniseed – This I am familiar with as growing up in an Eastern European family we used this in pastries. This is a member of carrot, caraway, cumin, dill, fennel, and cilantro family. It has a strong licorice scent and flavor.
Aji Amarillo & Aji Mirasol – Aji Amarillo is a chile and in dried form is Aji Mirasol. The powder has a smokier, sweeter flavor than fresh chiles and has less heat.
The Aji Amarillo is a yello chilli and when cooked or the pods have matured are a bright orange. This is a common form of pepper.
This is a nice box and a great form of conversation for the whole family. We’ve discussed Peru over a dinner of chili and used the the Aji Mirasol for extra flavor instead of southwest seasonings we would have used. This was a delicious change to my every day chili.
This would be great because I love trying out new foods and recipes!
This sounds like a yummy box I know a few people who would love this, I wouldn’t mind either just as long as its not too spicy.
(Spice Madam Monthly Subscription Box – Spicing Up Your Life) My brother would really enjoy this neat subscription box. He likes adding spicy sauces all the time to his food-
