What Do You Want To Hear About In The News?

I’m seriously fed up with the news organizations only promoting politics right now.  I actually don’t care any more.  I’ve made up my mind, but I know that many haven’t.  I really hope those of you that haven’t will use your online presence to decide.  You can learn so much more about the candidates than listening to their “he said, she said”.  Anyway, this isn’t really what this post is about.

This post is about the fact that there is SO much more going on in this world that we as parents, humans and philanthropists want to to know about.  Here are some things I want to hear about.

I want statistics about how many white people vs black, Hispanic etc have been killed by police.  I would love someone to do a whole news line on the family dynamics because here’s the thing, too many people are being killed, period.  Too many of these people start out as kids without parents or in gangs and we need, as a society to figure out what we can do to make life a little easier for those having the hardest time.  I will be the first to admit I WAS WRONG!, there are too many black lives being taken.  But we need to find out why.  Is this really a race problem or is it a poverty issue.  Is this a lack of a father or is it a lack of education.  I do believe race is a problem, and as a white person who doesn’t see color in people.  Many, white people from the civil rights era do.

I also want to hear about Syria.  Why are we fighting a war in a foreign country against a country we’re supposed to be semi friendly with?  This fight isn’t exactly about Syria any more.  It’s about the egos of the USA and Russia.  These are human lives being destroyed.  God does not give us the right to end lives and the future of what these children could have grown up to do for society.

There is this little thing called terrorism spurring war in the whole world right now.  What is being done about it?  Are we randomly throwing soldier’s lives at the problem without a real plan of what we’re going to do?  Does the government realize we have a whole generation of kids moving into adulthood right now that have NEVER known peace?   How sad is that.

It would be amazing to hear so many more stories too but I do have one last point to make that hits home.  I have a 19 year old son and a 14 year old son.  The 19 year old when in play group would get pink slipped for making guns, gun sounds etc in play group.  The 14 year old could make gun sounds, guns, bombs any type of weapon and play soldier with the boys in the same play group and not get a pink slip.

What kinds of stories would you like to hear about?  What is weighing on your mind that we’re not hearing enough about.  I know that the lists are endless but if we join together maybe we can make our own difference in the media.  Make them report on what we want to hear about.  Not when so and so had an affair, or so and so is crazy.  We got screwed with the candidates this year, but that’s done and we need to make better choices for our future.

I’m just now catching up on blogs, but figured I’d comment anyway! I have a friend who covers police involved shootings for Washington Post, and the numbers are crazy. Implicit bias is a fascinating thing.

I get frustrated about so much election coverage, too, but at least we’re getting close! (And admittedly these past few weeks, there’s been a LOT to cover!) Do you watch Rachel Maddow? She does a great job of balancing political news with what’s going on in the rest of the world that’s important.

Hi Crystal, I do not watch Rachel Maddow but I’m going to look her up now. I would really like to see an ambush of stats on the police shootings. Like really break it down in numbers between minorities, gangs, whites etc. And then chronicle the number shot in each and weight the percentages because it’s so important to people like me that live in little tiny towns and and say pft! There’s no discrimination. I used to think that but I think it’s different in the city.

I want to be kept up to date on politics, I know, cringeworthy. I want to get my news from reliable sources. Thank you and Happy Holidays!

It has gotten where I don’t watch the news anymore. This city that I live in is so out of hand. It feels like we are living in the wild wild west.

I want to see a news channel that doesn’t report on politics. I would love to see a humanitarian channel.

Actually if you do good research on Google you will find most police shootings are white. The highest ranking to get shot is the mentally ill. In fact I think it is like 16x as likely to be shot if youre mentally ill regardless of color. If folks want to argue tat comment- do your research and then come back with some valid info.
It seems everything is being skewed. I hate it because it causes division.
