As Michigan weather goes we’ve had it easy this year. We’ll get a mild cold snap in the 20s or so and then we’ll get a warm spell of about 40 degrees. We’ll get a couple of feet of snow and then it will all melt. Generally, February is below 0, crisp, snowy and the bay will start to freeze.
Yesterday was a snow day for most of Northern Michigan both in the tip of the Mitt and the UP. Many schools thought they would tough it out and ended up sending kids home early. Although, my son had the day off I hadn’t really paid attention to the forecast and left for town. I was greeted with a white out and roads that hadn’t been plowed. I was however thrilled that while other cars were struggling to make it up a steep hill my car went right up. I did what I needed in town and came right home to snuggle up by a nice warm fire.
When my husband got home from work he started blowing snow. That was at 4 pm, at 7:30 pm he finally walked in the door. He had blown our upper and lower driveway and then ran to his mom and done her smaller drive. He was frozen and hungry. As a wife I appreciate that he blows the snow and works hard for us so I had a hot dinner waiting, a roaring fire and the bed was made, so he could snuggle down.
If you live in Northern Michigan, you need to like if not love Winter. So many people complain about our weather but as a general rule we lack tornadoes, flooding and forest fires. We aren’t completely immune to the effects of Mother Nature but for the most part our biggest worry is snow and ice, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Our family embraces the cold and the snow and patiently wait for the one month of Summer to come around (kidding we have 2 months).
