And March Roars In Like A Lion!

As Michigan weather goes we’ve had it easy this year.  We’ll get a mild cold snap in the 20s or so and then we’ll get a warm spell of about 40 degrees.  We’ll get a couple of feet of snow and then it will all melt.  Generally, February is below 0, crisp, snowy and the bay will start to freeze.

Yesterday was a snow day for most of Northern Michigan both in the tip of the Mitt and the UP.  Many schools thought they would tough it out and ended up sending kids home early.  Although, my son had the day off I hadn’t really paid attention to the forecast and left for town.  I was greeted with a white out and roads that hadn’t been plowed.  I was however thrilled that while other cars were struggling to make it up a steep hill my car went right up.  I did what I needed in town and came right home to snuggle up by a nice warm fire.

When my husband got home from work he started blowing snow.  That was at 4 pm, at 7:30 pm he finally walked in the door.  He had blown our upper and lower driveway and then ran to his mom and done her smaller drive.  He was frozen and hungry.  As a wife I appreciate that he blows the snow and works hard for us so I had a hot dinner waiting, a roaring fire and the bed was made, so he could snuggle down.

If you live in Northern Michigan, you need to like if not love Winter.  So many people complain about our weather but as a general rule we lack tornadoes, flooding and forest fires.  We aren’t completely immune to the effects of Mother Nature but for the most part our biggest worry is snow and ice, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  Our family embraces the cold and the snow and patiently wait for the one month of Summer to come around (kidding we have 2 months).

I walked outside once to find my car buried in snow – and someone had drawn a heart in the snow over my windshield! I must have a secret admirer. Well, or the car does.

March came in like a sheep yesterday. A bit windy for a lamb.

I don’t know how any body lives up there in the cold. So much snow I wouldn’t know what to do.

Our WV weather has been up and down with the temperature all winter long. Christmas it was almost 65 degrees, New Years Eve it was minus 1. Today it is 35 and by wed it will be 65

Very little snow for us and we really need it for our water table

All our snow had melted, but now they are saying we may have 12-15″ by Tuesday. 🙁 So ready for winter to be over!

In PA we are having the oddest weather. 76 degrees one day and snow the next. This went on for a couple weeks. Now we are having high winds, mild temps but supposed to get 3 to 5 inches tomorrow.

Barbara it’s the same here. Yesterday it was 55 and sunny and today the windchill was -7. It’s so strange. A school and a restaurant both lost their roofs because it was blowing so hard.

Michiganders should come down to the mid-atlantic and teach people how to drive in snow – you’d make a killing! lol

March in NY was like a lion also! Our last day of March is cold, windy and pouring rain, but I guess it could have been snow!

I know winter here in Iowa is a lot like Michigan! Not fun and they tend to linger. I remember having snow at the end of March. Not wanted!
