The family is bustling with excitement. My daughter, Sarena (23) is getting married! Her fiance proposed over the holidays and they’ve picked a date June of 2018. It seems like just yesterday this beautiful young woman was a baby and headstrong toddler. Slamming her bedroom door until mom came in with a screwdriver and took it off the hinges. Ahhh! The good ole days.
I’ve decided to add Wedding to the blog, while we go through all the stages and phases, I hope it will give others inspiration and ideas. We’ve already been planning a bit and I have gotten ideas from her. There are things that will be a little different in planning this wedding with the first being I’m allergic to most flowers. My daughter and I looking for alternatives and have found a beautiful substitute.
Sarena, being an art/fashion major has also decided on a lot of DIY projects. Many we can do in advance and some will be done closer to the event.
One thing that I want to be sure, is that this wedding is what SHE wants. I had nice, beautiful wedding but it was pretty much planned by everyone but me. Oh sure, I was consulted on things like the wedding colors but when I picked black I was highly encouraged to pick a REAL color. Our wedding was in August and I longed for January (After all I love winter). So when my daughter picked a Friday for her wedding I encouraged her and said, “Well, it should be easier to find a venue.” to which she answered “mmmm Mom, do you think we can have it in the backyard?”.
Why the backyard you may ask? It’s not the cost, though that will help, nope, I was told it’s because it holds so many good memories of her playing outside, of family bbqs, and reunions. How can I argue with that? Since we have 2 acres and a barn this will be a good setting.
And so, this is starting a whole new chapter in my daughter’s life and I cannot wait to see all the love, personality and sentiment that she puts into her wedding details.
Congratulations! Weddings are always fun and exciting. My nephew recently got engaged also and we are so happy!
Congratulations to all of you! What a lovely idea to begin a new path in your life with all your memories of home as your foundation!
Aww! That is so sweet! I’m glad you are letting it be her wedding! So many times us Moms try to take over. Good luck to ya’ll!
congrat…………… my niece is thinking about saying yes …stressful time
Congratulations!! My niece just got engaged and asked my daughter to be a bridesmaid! Her mother and I are both over the moon and already discussing the plans!
best wishes for the wedding. I think the bride is a really smart lady who has thought the whole thing through and her wedding will be the best. I only wish I had made some of the choices she did when I got married.
Congrats! What an awesome tribute to you, as a mom, that Sarena has such wonderful memories of home that she wants her wedding in the yard. Both of you are blessed to have that kind of mother-daughter relationship. It’s much rarer than you think.
Congrats! This is awesome. This will be alot of fun planning. I am looking forward to more articles. Thank you for sharing. God Bless
